The Clachig Inn located in Gelncoe, was where we spent the first night of our road trip around Scotland.
Our first day, was so stressful, driving on the opposite side of the road for the first time, on narrow scary roads, and getting a flat tire. All of these things were exactly what I was afraid of happening.
My nerves were shot, and I was just happy to be out of the car, and not stranded anymore.
Being happy just to be alive and inside ended up being a good thing for me to deal with my room. It looked perfectly fine at first glance.
The first thing I did, was get in the little box of a shower. I couldn't get an even water temperature. It was either freezing or scalding and there was no water pressure. I have long hair - it took about 30 minutes.
I went to get into bed, I pulled pack the covers, and saw that the sheets were covered in grass. It looked like someone had laid down with their shoes on. Again, I did not care. I just wiped it off and got in bed. Grateful to be there.
I couldn't get connected to the Wi-Fi and my room was closest to the office. Oh, well.
I woke up pretty cold - in August. There was a radiator, but I have no idea how those things work. I grew up in the desert and live in Hawaii. Jacket it is.
In the morning, I could hear my next door neighbor snoring and every footstep they took after they got up. When they closed their shower door, it shook my room. Who cares?
I got a text from my dad saying, "You will be amazed when you step outside." I opened my door. He was right. Woah. We arrived in the dark so we had no idea the beauty of our surroundings.
Fun fact: just across the highway is where they built Hagrid's Hut in Harry Potter the Prisoner of Azkaban. I wish they would have left it!
The surroundings were spectacular and the breakfast was pretty good. I'd stay here again just to walk the grounds. I loved it. There's a wooded trail fronting the inn that goes over a bridge. It's a beautiful place.
You have to think of the Clachaig Inn as a rustic wood cabin in the Scottish Highlands. It's a place for hikers to spend the night. It's shelter with a bed. It's good enough.
Next we stopped at Eileen Donan Castle, and had lunch in Kyle of Lochalsh, before heading to the bucket list location - the Isle of Skye.
